Flooring is often installed before painting touch-ups, electrical fit-off, joinery, appliance delivery, defect work and the final clean. A protective layer helps keep a completed finish out of the line of fire until the keys are handed over.

Protection for common newly installed floors
The right choice depends on more than the visible surface. Consider curing status, expected traffic, project length, moisture sensitivity and whether heavy items will move through the area.
Timber and engineered timber
Premium timber finishes can be marked by grit, tools and trapped moisture. Confirm that coatings and adhesives have cured, then choose breathable protection where residual vapour is a concern. Never cover a fresh coating without the manufacturer's approval.
Tile and natural stone
Tile edges can chip and grout lines can stain while kitchens, bathrooms and entries remain busy. Wait for adhesives, grout and sealers to cure before covering. Add cushioning along routes used for trolleys, appliances or joinery.
Hybrid, laminate and vinyl
These floors remain vulnerable to dragged cartons, ladder feet, sharp debris and paint. A stable self-adhesive covering is useful on smooth surfaces because it reduces shifting gaps compared with loose sheets.
Polished or coated concrete
Concrete may release moisture, while sealers and coatings need their own curing window. Where covering is permitted, select a breathable option for moisture-sensitive conditions. Use heavier protection when workbenches or material trolleys remain.

Anti-Slippery 160gsm for eligible newly finished floors
Our Anti-Slippery 160gsm roll combines a breathable PE layer, adhesive system and felt layer in one self-adhesive covering. It allows water vapour transmission, which can make it the better option where an approved newly finished surface still needs to breathe.
Breathability does not shorten a product’s curing time and is not permission to cover a wet or uncured floor. The installer or finish manufacturer should confirm when protection may be applied.

Where it fits in a construction project
The best time to think about protection is before flooring is handed over to the next trade, not after the first scratch. Treat it as a small work package with an install date, inspection responsibility and removal point.
1 Confirm the surface is ready
Check the flooring installer's and manufacturer’s cure requirements for the floor, adhesive, grout, sealer or coating. If timing is uncertain, wait and obtain written guidance before covering.
2 Clean and test
Vacuum or sweep carefully, remove sharp debris and make sure the area is completely dry. Apply a small piece in a hidden area and inspect it before proceeding.
3 Roll out felt-side down
Lay the self-adhesive side against the approved floor, working in a consistent direction. Smooth the material by hand without stretching it or trapping debris underneath.
4 Overlap and inspect
Overlap adjoining runs by about 7 cm and trim safely at walls and fixed items. Check access routes daily; replace any section that is torn, heavily contaminated or no longer secure.

All of Floor Protection® products are checked against REACH, the European Chemicals Regulation (EC No 1907/2006), confirming it's free from substances of very high concern above the regulation's threshold limits.
Our surface protections are also tested by SGS and confirmed compliant with RoHS 2 (EU Directive 2011/65/EU) and its 2015 amendment, meaning restricted substances are kept well within the maximum concentration values set out in the directive.

Why loose paper, plastic and cardboard can fall short
Traditional coverings have their place, but often need considerable taping and maintenance. Paper can tear or absorb spills. Plastic may move or become slippery. Cardboard is bulky, can lift at joins and may hide staples or grit. Drop sheets shift under foot traffic.
A self-adhesive multi-layer roll stays flat against an eligible floor, making movement less likely to open gaps. It is quick to cut and easier to keep presentable through the final trades. For concentrated loads, impacts or wheeled equipment, add suitable load-spreading boards or purpose-designed impact protection; felt alone is not a substitute for load management.

New flooring is often most exposed between installation and handover. The flooring contractor may have finished, but the site can remain active for days or weeks.
Sand and dust can be walked across the surface. Paint, adhesives and cleaning products may be spilled. Tools can be dropped, while appliances, ladders, trolleys and furniture may be moved through completed rooms.
