Temporary hybrid flooring protection
Hybrid floors are often promoted as durable and water-resistant. That does not make them construction-proof.
The wear layer can still be scratched or scuffed by fine grit. A screw, plaster fragment or tile chip trapped beneath a loose covering can create a pressure mark whenever someone walks over it. Paint, silicone and construction adhesive may also require cleaning products that affect the appearance of the floor.
Heavy point loads create another risk. Refrigerators, loaded trolleys, toolboxes and mobile access equipment can place far more pressure on a small area than normal foot traffic.
Floor Protection® supplies temporary self-adhesive protection rolls for hybrid flooring. Each 1 m × 50 m roll combines a soft non-woven layer, protective top film and low-tack backing. Once laid, the material stays flatter than loose sheets and provides a more reliable barrier against trade traffic, dust and everyday spills.
We are a Sydney-based wholesale supplier serving builders, flooring contractors, painters, renovators, fit-out companies and resellers throughout Australia.
Independently Tested Materials and Documented Performance
Floor protection sits directly against a finished surface, so quality should not depend entirely on packaging claims. Buyers should be able to review what has been tested and understand which results apply to each product.
The Floor Protection® range is supported by independent SGS laboratory reports. Applicable material samples have been assessed against relevant RoHS and REACH restricted-substance requirements. These reports provide documented information for builders, flooring contractors, project managers, procurement teams and resellers who need more than a general product description.
Our Anti-Slippery 160 gsm floor protection also has documented water-vapour transmission performance. Testing conducted in accordance with ASTM E96/E96M-24a, Procedure B, at 23°C and 50% relative humidity recorded a result of:
1,176 g/m² per 24 hours
This result gives contractors measurable information when a breathable temporary protection product is requested. It does not mean every newly installed hybrid floor can be covered immediately. The flooring manufacturer’s instructions, warranty requirements and site conditions must still be considered.

Which Protection Is Best for Hybrid Flooring?
The right product depends on the work, expected traffic and condition of the floor.
Mercury
Painting and Light Work
Mercury is suitable for touch-ups, cleaning, inspections and shorter residential jobs with light foot traffic. It provides a practical barrier against dust, dirty footwear and minor paint splashes without using a heavier product than the project requires.
STD Blue
General Renovation and Construction
STD Blue is our recommended all-round option for most established hybrid floors. Its 160 gsm multi-layer construction includes a PE top film, lamination and a 120 gsm non-woven felt layer.
It suits general renovation work, repeated foot traffic, painting, ladder use and normal residential construction activity.
Anti-Slippery
Busy Routes and Breathable Applications
Anti-Slippery is designed for projects where greater stability underfoot or water-vapour transmission is important. It is particularly useful along entrances, hallways, stair approaches and other frequently travelled routes.
How a multi-layer system work for protecting hybrid flooring

1- Protective film
water and spill barrier
2- Lamination layer
strength and stability
3- Non-woven felt
cushioning and absorption
4- Adhesive backing
secure temporary grip
Advanced and proved technology
Loose plastic can slide and offers almost no cushioning. Cardboard can absorb spills, open at the joins and call for tape directly on the finished floor. Fabric drop sheets wrinkle and can allow abrasive dust to travel underneath.
A self-adhesive multi-layer roll deals with these ordinary site problems in one material. The film manages surface mess, the felt softens normal traffic, and the low-tack backing reduces movement without aggressive construction tape at every join.
----- Install it correctly
A careful start prevents an expensive finish
Most failures do not begin with the roll. They begin with grit left on the floor, an untested coating or a blade used without a cutting board.
1
Check before covering
Confirm the hybrid floor is completely installed and ready to cover. Read the manufacturer’s requirements for adhesives, ventilation, temperature and covering duration.
2
Vacuum, inspect and test
Remove sand, screws, plaster and offcuts with a clean, non-abrasive vacuum head. Apply a small piece in a hidden area and check removal before proceeding.
3
Roll out without stretching
Start at the main access point with the felt and adhesive side against the floor. Keep the roll smooth. Use a 50–70 mm overlap for light work and up to 100 mm in busy areas.
4
Inspect through the project
Check entries, edges and doorways. Replace torn, wet or heavily contaminated sections. Use rigid load-spreading sheets where appliances or loaded trolleys must cross.
5
Remove inward, not across
Roll used material inward so site dust remains contained. Never drag a dirty roll over exposed flooring, and complete the clean with flooring-manufacturer-approved products.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Installing protection before the flooring contractor confirms the floor is ready
- Applying strong tape directly to hybrid planks
- Covering dust, grit or small construction offcuts
- Dragging appliances over felt protection without rigid boards
- Cutting the material directly against the finished floor
- Ignoring torn areas around doors and busy walkways
- Allowing spills to remain on the protection
- Assuming one product is suitable for every floor and project duration
- Leaving the floor covered longer than the manufacturer permits
