Temporary Marble Floor Protection
Protect polished, honed and sealed stone finishes during construction, renovation and fit-out work
Marble and natural stone floors can be among the most valuable finishes in a building. They may look solid, but construction grit, paint, dirty water, trolley wheels, ladder feet and dropped tools can leave scratches, stains, chips or dull patches that remain visible after handover.
Floor Protection® supplies self-adhesive, multi-layer temporary floor protection for compatible marble and natural stone surfaces. The rolls are designed to stay flat without extensive taping, help cushion the stone from ordinary trade activity and create a barrier against dust, dirt and everyday site spills.
Our standard rolls measure 1 m × 50 m and provide up to 50 m² of material before overlaps and cutting. Products are available for light painting, general renovation, breathable applications and heavier multi-trade projects, with wholesale supply and delivery across Australia.

- Why stone is different
Marble is not simply another ceramic tile
Natural stone varies in composition, porosity, finish and treatment. Marble, travertine, limestone, granite, quartzite and slate can behave differently from one another and from manufactured ceramic or porcelain tile.
The Natural Stone Institute notes that sand, dirt and grit are abrasive and may damage natural-stone floors. It also explains that calcareous stones, including marble and limestone, are sensitive to acidic solutions.
The complete floor system matters
- Natural characteristics of the stone
- Polished, honed, brushed or textured finish
- Grout, bedding adhesive or mortar
- Penetrating sealer or surface treatment
- Remaining construction moisture
- Required curing time before covering
- Surfaces we can help protect
Natural-stone protection selected by finish and condition
The range may be suitable for compatible, properly cured examples of the following surfaces. Suitability cannot be assumed from the stone name alone.
- Marble flooring
- Travertine flooring
- Limestone flooring
- Granite flooring
- Quartzite flooring
- Slate and natural stone
- Polished or honed stone
- Stone stairs and foyers
- Construction risks
What can damage marble and natural stone on site?
A protection plan needs to control what reaches the floor, what moves across it and what may become trapped beneath the covering.
01
Grit and abrasive debris
Sand, plaster fragments and metal particles may scratch or dull stone when pressure and movement occur above them.
02
Paint, oil and dirty water
Liquids may stain porous stone, grout or joints. Spills should be contained and cleaned promptly.
03
Scratching and lost polish
Ladder feet, dragged equipment and trolley wheels can leave visible scuffing or changes in reflectivity.
04
Edges and transitions
Stair nosings, thresholds, movement joints and exposed stone edges may need additional impact protection.
05
Tape incompatibility
Strong construction tape may interact with a stone sealer, grout or surface treatment and should not be assumed safe.
06
Covering too early
Adhesive, bedding, grout or sealer may still have curing and moisture-management requirements.
- Product Selection
Which floor protection should you choose?
Start with the condition of the stone, then assess finish, site activity, expected duration and whether documented vapour transmission is relevant.

How to protect marble and natural stone
A clean floor, a compatibility test and regular inspection are as important as the protection material itself.
01
Confirm it can be covered
Check the stone, adhesive, grout and sealer instructions before installation.
02
Identify the finish
Record whether the stone is polished, honed, textured, sealed or recently restored.
03
Clean carefully
Vacuum sand, grit, plaster, screws and other abrasive construction debris.
04
Patch-test
Check adhesion, appearance and removal in a small inconspicuous area.
05
Plan traffic routes
Identify stairs, thresholds, entrances, trolley paths and concentrated loads.
06
Roll out and overlap
Install flat and overlap adjoining runs by approximately 7 cm.
07
Inspect the covering
Replace sections that become torn, heavily contaminated or wet underneath.
08
Remove carefully
Peel back slowly and check the finished floor progressively during removal.
How many rolls will your project need?
Each roll contains 50 m² before overlaps and cutting. Allow for approximately 7 cm overlaps, room layout, stairs, columns, access routes and replacement sections for longer projects.
