Tiles are durable, but not impossible to damage. Grit beneath a ladder, a dropped tool or a trolley crossing an exposed edge can leave a defect long after every trade has gone.

Floor Protection® supplies multi-layer tile floor protection for builders, tilers, painters, renovators, fit-out contractors and resellers across Australia. Our self-adhesive rolls create a stable barrier against dirt, dust, paint, spills, scuffs and trade traffic, without covering the tiles in construction tape.

Every standard roll measures 1m × 50m and contains 50m² before overlaps and cuts. Four grades cover light painting through to multi-trade construction, including a tested breathable option for eligible recently finished floors.

At a glance: self-adhesive backing, multi-layer construction, no extensive taping, reusable where conditions allow, recyclable materials, REACH compliance documentation, SGS-tested RoHS compliance and Australia-wide wholesale supply.

A tiled floor is a complete system. Grout, polished finishes, sealers, movement joints, edges and transitions may be more vulnerable than the tile face.

- Grit causes abrasion: Sand and metal fragments can mark glazed, polished and stone surfaces.

- Edges can chip: Tools, ladders, appliances and joinery can strike corners and thresholds.

- Grout can stain: Paint, plaster dust, adhesive and dirty water can discolour grout.

- Loose coverings move: Paper, plastic and drop sheets can tear, bunch or expose sections of floor as trades walk through.

- Repairs disrupt handover: Replacing a tile can disturb adjacent grout, adding cost, delay and disputes.

Protection does not excuse poor handling, but it creates a dependable barrier and obvious access routes.

Which Tile Floor Protection Should You Choose?

Choose according to floor condition, site activity, project length and any need for vapour transmission.

Heavy equipment needs another layer.

Use rigid load-spreading sheets above the felt beneath mobile scaffolds, loaded trolleys, pallet jacks or heavy appliances. Flexible protection is not structural impact protection.

Test results apply to the identified products, materials and documented conditions. FPT-002 is a comparative installation assessment and actual time varies by site. For finished tile, confirm the surface is fully cured, clean and dry, and patch-test a hidden area first, especially polished, sealed, coated or natural-stone surfaces. The stated fire classification applies only to the relevant custom-manufactured specification, not standard stock rolls.

Five practical steps

Clean first. Test first. Then cover.

Good protection depends on the surface underneath and the way the roll is installed.

  1. Confirm readiness

Check adhesive, grout, sealer and movement-joint cure requirements.

  2. Vacuum carefully

Remove grit, screws, dust and tile fragments from the whole area.

  3. Dry & patch-test

Test a hidden area for grip and clean removal before full coverage.

  4. Roll felt-side down

Smooth forward without dragging debris. Cut over a protective board.

  5. Overlap & inspect

Overlap by about 70mm and check busy routes throughout the job.

FAQs

1What is the best protection for tiled floors during construction?
STD Blue 160gsm is a strong general-purpose choice for compatible, fully cured tiles. Use Mercury for lighter work, investigate breathable Anti-Slippery for approved recently finished floors, and consider Heavy Duty for busier projects. Add rigid load-spreading sheets wherever concentrated impact or heavy equipment is expected.
2Can tiles be protected immediately after installation?
Not automatically. The tile adhesive, grout, sealer and movement-joint materials must reach the manufacturer’s required stage before covering. A breathable product allows vapour transmission but does not replace curing.
3Will the self-adhesive backing leave residue?
It is designed for clean removal from suitable, cured and patch-tested floors. FPT-003 recorded clean removal from the tested tile sample after 14 and 30 days. Because finishes and site conditions vary, universal compatibility cannot be guaranteed.
4Can it be used on polished porcelain or natural stone?
Potentially, subject to approval and testing. Confirm compatibility with the tile, stone or sealer supplier and test a hidden area before full installation.
5How much does one roll cover?
One roll measures 1m × 50m and contains 50m². With a 7cm overlap, theoretical open-area coverage is approximately 46.5m² before cutting and waste.
6Do you supply certificates and test reports?
Yes. Available documentation includes REACH and SGS RoHS compliance evidence, the Anti-Slippery breathability report, Test Centre assessments and product-specific fire-test documentation for qualifying custom orders.
7Do you offer wholesale supply?
Yes. Floor Protection® supplies trade, project, pallet and reseller quantities throughout Australia, with dispatch from Rhodes, NSW.
