How to Lay Down Floor Protection Rolls

Watch a practical temporary floor protection installation on a finished floor. The demonstration shows how the roll is positioned, smoothed and joined to create a clean and stable protected work area.

What the video demonstrates

  • Preparing a clean and dry working surface
  • Positioning and rolling the material forward
  • Smoothing the protection as it is installed
  • Joining adjacent runs with approximately 7cm overlap
  • Creating a neater surface without ordinary floor tape

Frequently asked questions

Temporary Floor Protection FAQs

Practical answers about self-adhesive installation, coverage, breathability, removal and reuse.

What is temporary floor protection?

Temporary floor protection is a removable covering placed over a finished floor during construction, painting, renovations, fit-outs or maintenance. It helps protect the surface from dust, dirt, paint splashes, scratches, foot traffic and everyday site activity.

How do you install self-adhesive floor protection?

Confirm that the surface is suitable, fully cured, clean and dry. Test a small hidden area, place the adhesive felt side against the floor, roll the material forward and smooth it as you work. Overlap adjoining runs by approximately 7cm and inspect the covering throughout the project.

Does adhesive floor protection leave sticky residue?

Our products are designed for clean removal when they are installed correctly on a suitable, fully cured and compatible surface. Conditions and floor finishes vary, so always conduct a small patch test and follow the flooring or coating manufacturer’s instructions before covering the complete area.

Can floor protection be used on newly installed floors?

Only cover a newly installed or coated floor after the flooring installer, adhesive supplier or coating manufacturer confirms that it is ready. A breathable protection grade may be more appropriate where the floor still needs to release moisture vapour, but product compatibility and curing instructions must still be confirmed.

What is breathable floor protection?

Breathable floor protection is designed to allow a measured level of water vapour to pass through the material. Our Anti-Slippery 160gsm product was tested to ASTM E96/E96M-24a, Procedure B, with a water-vapour transmission result of 1,176 g/m²/24 hours.

How much area does one roll cover?

Each roll measures 1 metre wide by 50 metres long and contains 50m² of material. Practical coverage will be lower after allowing for approximately 7cm overlaps, cuts, stairs, corners, irregular room shapes and installation waste.

Can temporary floor protection be reused?

It may be reused when the material is removed carefully and remains clean, undamaged and sufficiently adhesive. Reuse depends on the product grade, site conditions, contamination, storage and the condition of the backing after removal.
